Historical Bike Ride Along the Underground Railroad
Participants will tour the Todd House (Tabor, IA) and grounds of the Hitchcock House (Lewis, IA), which will be undergoing restoration due to foundational repair, and engage in meaningful learning and discussion opportunities throughout the weekend. Participants will arrive Friday afternoon to explore and celebrate Tabor and ride Saturday to Cold Springs and Sunday return to Tabor. Red Oak, IA will share its history as the highlighted mid-route stop.

The Iowa Underground Railroad Bike Ride is a two and a half day event that takes participants on a journey through part of the history of the Underground Railroad in Iowa. Riders will come to Tabor Friday afternoon for history and celebration. The bike-ride starts on Saturday in the town of Tabor and ends the day in Lewis. On Sunday riders will ride back to Tabor on same route.
Riders will have the opportunity to visit historic homes and landmarks associated with the Underground Railroad.
Iowa Underground Railroad Bike Ride is a unique and engaging way to explore the history of the Underground Railroad in Iowa and to
recognize the journey to actively resist unjust practices. Join us as we celebrate courage, resilience, community, reflection and growth.
The ride is organized by the National Association of Social Workers- Iowa Chapter, Black Girls Do Bike-Des Moines, Iowa Bicycle Coalition and other dedicated volunteers.
